It's been two years since Mike Lee came to Amsterdam and started the Appsterdam movement. What began as a casual, weekly gathering of app makers has blossomed into an international non-profit organization with volunteers and embassies around the world.

"It's a fantastic, supportive community, with diverse interests and backgrounds. A great place to find friends and start projects," says Bolot Kerimbaev, instructor at Big Nerd Ranch.

This Saturday, 20 April, Appsterdam celebrates two years of bringing app makers together. The weekend promises to be one not to be missed, full of special activities such as guided tours, an App Wall showcasing apps made from Appsterdam members, and a Sunday "hangover" brunch.

The highlight is the big birthday party itself on Saturday night at the Zuiderkerk, starting at 18:30. Special guest Carolien Gehrels, Vice Mayor of Amsterdam, will kick-off the event at 19:00, followed by Mayor of Appsterdam, Mike Lee. The event is sponsored by Economische Zaken Amsterdam, Trifork, and SoftLayer.

Appsterdam has proven to be a valuable resource for the tech and entrepreneurial scenes, providing a welcoming atmosphere to app makers of all skill levels and backgrounds. These app makers form a collective of developers, designers, artists, business types, and many more. The organization strives to meet the desires of its members and has organized nearly 400 events so far--an average of one event every other day.

With weekly opportunities to share knowledge, network, and socialize, Appsterdam has become the place for any app maker to improve their craft, thus boosting the app ecosystem at large. The 100%-volunteer driven organization has collaborated with well-known partners such as Microsoft, Gemeente Amsterdam, Universiteit van Amsterdam, Big Nerd Ranch, Softlayer, BNO, Waag Society, HockeyApp, and many others.

"The organization has grown into something I never imagined," says Appsterdam Mayor, Mike Lee. "The volunteers have made a heroic effort to keep the Appsterdam spirit alive. We have shown that there was a need to create a global community where creative people can come together and improve each others' lives."

With this weekend's celebrations, Appsterdam hopes to shine a light on its great accomplishments over the past two years and look to the future for another 2 years and beyond.
